Biriyani Kabob House – Koreatown, LA, CA

Coming from Dallas, I’m a little bit spoiled when it comes to biryani – it’s practically everywhere and plus there’s so many options for good home cooked biryani too. So I knew it was going to be a challenge to find the best biryani spot in LA, but one I am on a quest to find.

Started my search with BKH. We ordered the Lamb Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, Garlic Naan and Plain Naans.
Lamb Biryani ($13.95) – Alright, this is not authentic biryani, that being said it was alright, but more of a flavourful masala rice – but slightly better, the lamb was tasty. I’d only get it if I don’t find an authentic Hyderabadi biryani spot asap.
Chicken Tikka Masala ($12.95) – The Chicken Tikka was really good, so flavourful and spicy. Probably a little extra spicy, but I did request that and I don’t care, it was super yum.
Saag Paneer ($12.95) – Saag Paneer was good and spicy. It’s not the typical fully blended spinach, more chopped up version.
Garlic Naan ($3.50 ea) & Plain Naan ($3 ea) – Naans were good.

Quantity 5/5 – Large portions – especially the biryani.
Delivery 4/5 – Curry was leaking a bit, but nothing too bad – good delivery.
Spice 4/5 – Extra spicy, maybe could have gone with one level down. I asked for Desi spicy so that’s on me. I liked it though, although my husband was a bit annoyed with the level of spice but that’s what happens if you leave the ordering to me.
Taste 4/5 – Curries were very tasty, flavourful and felt home-style.

Overall, this is definitely a curry joint. Not a biryani spot, so I would definitely be back to try their other curries. The standout was the Chicken Tikka Masala and that’s going to be my go to here for sure. My quest for the best biryani in LA shall continue.

Al Kabob Grill & Cafe

Looking for some curry pretty much, came here during lunch time. It was quite busy, lot of to go orders. There’s only a few tables so seems more of a takeaway joint. Placed order at the counter and took a seat.
We ordered the Beef Chapli Kabob, Haleem, Chicken Kadahi, Butter Naans and got Goat Biryani to go.

Beef Patty – omG this is sooo tasty. It’s just the right amount of spice and the marination is too good. Got some to go as well.
Haleem – not a fan, this tasted completely different to the usual. Has a dal like texture and bitterness to it.
Chicken Kadahi – very homestyle and delicious. Good flavour, not overly spicy but still good. I like spice, so the lady at the counter suggested this over the Butter Chicken which is meant to be a bit more sweeter and not spicy.
Naans were good.
Goat Biryani – good flavour, actually was pretty good. Just a little bit on the greasy side, lot of ghee or something. But tasty.

Quantity – On the smaller side. The dishes were a little bigger than app size for the Chicken curry. The biryani was packed in a box which had compartments within, would make more sense for a flat box so you get more quantity.Ambience – Very casual and basic, definitely seems more of a to-go place. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you, but all the utensils and water you need to get yourself.Service – Service was not the best. There were only two people and it was a little slow. Keep in mind you can’t bring your own drinks or water in here.Spice – 2-3/5 Not spicy but very good flavours.Taste – Food was delicious, apart from the Haleem.

Overall I would definitely order from here again, but probably delivery or just pick up. Food quantity is smaller than normal but the prices reflect this.
